1 3. Review of the materials provided to me gave a medical history of
r Hampton which included the following medical conditions:
3 Hypertension
4 Hepatitis C
5 Inguinal Hernia I Incisional Hernia
6 Low back pain
T Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
8 Abdominal Pain
9 Weight loss
m 4. It is my brief to evaluate whether I-Iampton has been treated according to
the normal community standards of care for his conditions as outlined above.
H 5. After thorough review of the information provided to me it would seem
12 that Hampton largely did receive the standard of care that he might expect to receive
H in the community for his medical conditions with two exceptions.
M 5. Hampton was described in the materials as having a hernia which was
15 said to be reducible and therefore treated with hemia belts and multiple abdominal
16 binders. I believe that this does NUT meet the standard of care in the community for
H an ongoing hernia, especially one accompanied with pain symptoms. The common
lg standard of care for such a condition is for surgical referral for repair. This is because
W a given number of patients with hemiae even one that is reducible, will have issues
if with incarceration and peritonitis, and it is the norm to electively repair such hemiae
il to prevent these potentially catastrophic complications.
22 7. I note that Hampton has had a hemia since IQQE, and has been
23 experiencing significant pain since then, for a period of at least eight (S) years. In
24 light ofthe pain and discomfort Hampton has experienced for many years, as well as
