R. BRUCE WHITMAN states under oath as follows:
l. l interviewed Lauretta Pool on November 25, 2006, at her home in Phoenix, AZ. Mrs.
Pool stated the following facts during the interview.
2. A man named J eny White brought Steven James and his younger sister Donna to Arizona
for their adoption. Steven was approximately five years old at the time.
3. Mrs. Pool and her husband Andy agreed to adopt Donna.
4. Jerry White’s wife did not want to adopt Steven, but the Pools’ neighbors, Bradley and
Winnie James, agreed to adopt him.
5. Mrs. Pool knew that Steven had a rough life in California, and had lived in foster care.
6. Steven was a gentle and sweet little boy, but he had problems in school in Arizona. Other
children picked on him a lot.
7. Steven sometimes called Mrs. Pool Hom school, asking her to pick him up. She felt
protective of Steven and took him into her home because of his problems with the other
children.
8. Bradley James tried to teach Steven to be "rough and tough." but Steven was not this type
of boy.
9. Although Steven and Donna lived in adjacent homes when they were growing up, they
did not have a lot of contact with each other because Mrs. Pool thought it was best to
keep them separate.
l0. Steven attended a military school in New Mexico for a period as a teenager. When he
returned, he leamed that Mrs. Pool was having problems with Donna, and he offered to
help.

ll. After Donna got manied and had two children, she became involved in drug use.
l2. Mrs. Pool no longer was in contact with Donna at the time of our interview, and did not
know her current whereabouts.
