JOINT STATUS REPORT The parties are engaged in settlement talks that may resolve all issues related to the 2000 tax year. In particular, the plaintiffs have made a formal settlement proposal, and counsel for the United States plans to submit that proposal to his superiors for review and final approval. That review process will likely take at least thirty days. To facilitate settlement, the parties ask the court to stay all proceedings for thirty days. If approved, the proposed settlement will resolve all open issues at the trial court level. The Government could then appeal the Court's decision issued on July 17, 2007, as a final judgment. Thus, a stay would preserve judicial resources until it is determined whether they will be needed.
