DANE COUNTY INTOXICATED DRIVER PROGRAM

What is an OWI Assessment?
Throughout Wisconsin, persons convicted of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants, or related offenses, are required to complete an assessment of their use of alcohol, drugs, and prescription medications. The purpose of this confidential assessment is to determine whether a drinking or drug problem exists. All assessments result in a referral to either an educational program or a counseling program: this is the so-called Driver Safety Plan, which is a required component of Wisconsin's Intoxicated Driver Program. The intent of the Driver Safety Plan is to help us all reduce the threat of repeat-offense drunk driving. You will meet with a trained alcohol and drug counselor who will ask you about your use of intoxicating substances. The confidentiality of all information you share is strictly protected by State and Federal regulations (42 C.F.R. part II). There is a fee of $240 for the assessment which normally takes 90 minutes; the fee also covers monitoring activities that occur at several points after the assessment is completed. This fee must be paid prior to the assessment interview via cash, cashier's check or money order. Sorry, we cannot accept personal checks. The appointment will be held at: Mental Health Center of Dane County 702 W. Main Street Madison, WI 53715

You must make your appointment within 72 hours from the time it is ordered (your conviction date) by calling: (608) 280-2630. When you call, please indicate that you want to make an appointment for an intoxicated driver assessment.
