li Pursuant to this Court’s September 22, 2006 Order authorizing Petitioner to
2 compensate two law students to assist in the preparation of his Merits Memorandum,
2 Petitioner respectfully requests additional funding. Petitioner initially requested that two
2 students be appointed for 190 hours each, at the rate of $25 per hour, for a total of $9,500.
2 This Court authorized a sum not to exceed $5,000 (for 100 hours each, at $25 per hour),
2 "[w]ithout prejudice to a motion for additional law student funding." Petitioner
2 respectfully requests an additional $2,594 for this funding.

I Thus far, the Court has paid the two law students a total of $3,354.50 (for 134.2
Iz hours, combined). This includes all work performed by the students through January
2007.l Since that time, the two students have worked an additional 169.6 hours
4 (combined), assisting counsel during the final two months before Petitioner filed his
5 Merits Memorandum on March 28, 2007. Petitioner’s counsel was unaware until after
filing the Merits Memorandum that the total student hours exceeded the 200 hours
Iv previously authorized by the Court. Counsel has paid the students for the additional work,
8 which was both essential and cost-effective, as the students conducted research and
9 writing that otherwise would have been performed by counsel. The additional work
10 performed by the students brings their total compensation to $7,594.00 ($2,594.00 above
ll the amount previously authorized).
