Last day proponent can circulate and file with the county. All sections are to be filed at the same time within each county within 90 days of the enactment date Thursday, January 10, 2008

Verification Procedures: a. Within eight working days after the filing of the petition, the county elections official shall determine the total number of signatures affixed to the petition and transmit that information to the Secretary of State (Elec. Code § 9030(b)). Secretary of State determines whether the total number of signatures filed with all county clerks/registrars meets the minimum number of required signatures. and notifies the counties (Elec. Code § 9030(c)). Within 30 working days, county elections officials determine the total number of qualified voters who signed the petition. If more than 500 names have been signed on sections, the elections official shall use a random sampling technique for verification of signatures. as determined by the Secretary of State. Upon completion of this examination, the official shall immediately transmit the certificate showing the result of the examination and blank copy of the petition to the Secretary or State (Elec. Code § 9030(d),(e)).
