In fact, I didnt play with it much. I always just kind of sat and admired it, and allowed me to feed my fantasies about some day rescuing one of the neighbor girls, Puffy Vogel or Debbie Buchanan, from a fire in my fire outfit. And it gave me a lot of joy. It was not until I went away to college, and a couple of my nephews, who were not quite so respectful of it, did a great deal of damage to it for which I have never completely forgiven them. In fact, there is some question whether they will be in my will because of it. But I think what I want to address here today is the fact that we in erica all love our heroes and, of course, we tend to think of those who give of themselves on behalf of others as heroes. We all, when we were kids, wanted to be Matt Dillon or Paladin or Ben Cartwright, or whatever it might have been that we watched on TV, because those were people who lived according to principles that we all admired and respected, and in a way we did not know that the world was a far more complicated place than was portrayed on television, and for that I am thankful because it gave us a sense of idealism that our own children today seldom are able to share in this seemingly much more complicated world in which we live.
